Foster Program FAQ

Anyone needing temporary care for their pets due to personal circumstances, such as undergoing treatment for substance abuse, domestic violence, or a mental health crisis, is eligible for the PAWsitive Recovery Foster Program. To qualify, you must be actively participating in a treatment program or residing in a sober living or domestic violence shelter.

PAWsitive Recovery’s operations are primarily based in Denver, Colorado. However, we are in the process of expanding our service base, and may still be able to help if you are located in another part of the United States.

Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss your specific situation. We will try our best to help.

There is a nonrefundable intake fee of $100, with an additional monthly fee of $100 required for the duration of your pet’s stay in the program. We charge a fee to cover the costs associated with caring for your pet, including food, medical care, and other necessities. This helps ensure your pet receives the best possible care while you are away.

Note: All payments, including vet bills, must be cleared before the animal is discharged from the program.

We never want to turn anyone away for financial reasons. If you are unable to pay, please reach out to us. We strive to make our program accessible to everyone in need and may be able to offer financial assistance or work out a payment plan.

We don’t have a set timeline for the foster program. Our priority is ensuring your pet is taken care of while you get the help you need, and we will try our best to assist no matter how long it takes. We have fostered anywhere from a few days to a full year, depending on the circumstances.

We carefully screen all of our foster families to ensure they are capable and compassionate caregivers. We also provide regular updates and maintain open communication so you can be assured of your pet’s well-being.

We understand the importance of maintaining your bond with your pet and are happy to facilitate one visit with your dog each month. While we do not recommend in-person visits with cats, video chats may sometimes be permissible.

No, direct contact with your pet’s foster family is not permitted. However, we will provide regular updates to ensure your peace of mind and your pet’s well-being.
